Maryland State Police Probe Fatal Motorcycle Accident in Cecil County
(ELKTON, MD) – The Maryland State Police are actively investigating a deadly motorcycle accident that took place on Monday afternoon in Cecil County.
The deceased has been identified as Velmer Huff Jr., 63, from Elk Mills, Maryland. He was declared dead by medical staff at Christiana Hospital.
On May 12, 2025, around 2:40 p.m., troopers from the North East Barrack responded to the intersection of Blue Ball Road and Dogwood Road in Elkton, where a collision occurred between a Harley Davidson motorcycle and a Chrysler van. Huff was riding the motorcycle, while his passenger, Tara Hammond, 43, of North East, Maryland, was transported via ambulance to Christiana Hospital for injury treatment.
According to initial investigations, the Chrysler, operated by Ethel Smith, 73, was traveling westbound on Dogwood Road when it collided with the motorcycle, which was heading north on Blue Ball Road.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team is on site to aid in the investigation. Charges will follow based on the investigation’s findings and discussions with the Office of the State’s Attorney in Cecil County.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
