Inquest Identifies 61-Year-Old Motorcyclist Killed in Crash at Infamous A41 Blackspot

Mark St David Williams, aged 61, was involved in a collision at High Heath, Hinstock, close to Market Drayton, on March 2 of this year.

Mr. Williams, a scaffolding manager originally from Lichfield and residing in Cannock, was riding a Triumph Rocket three-wheeled trike when the incident occurred around 11:18 am. The other vehicles involved included a Harley Davidson trike and a Hyundai i10 car. According to the West Midlands Ambulance Service, the Harley Davidson rider was hospitalized with injuries that are not considered life-threatening, while the car driver remained unharmed.

An air ambulance helicopter was dispatched alongside paramedics in two road ambulances.

An inquest into Mr. Williams’ death was initiated at Shropshire Coroner’s Court at the Guildhall in Shrewsbury on Tuesday, March 18.

The hearing revealed that paramedics and police were dispatched to the site; however, despite their best efforts, they could not save Mr. Williams, who was pronounced dead at the location. His body was identified by his spouse.

John Ellery, senior coroner for Shropshire, Telford, and Wrekin, postponed the inquest to be fully heard on July 17 of this year.

Following the crash, West Mercia Police issued a public appeal for video evidence and additional information.

A spokesperson commented: “We encourage anyone who was in the vicinity during this time and may have witnessed the incident, or possesses dashcam footage of either the collision or the vehicles in the minutes prior, to come forward.”
