10 Fast Motorcycles Celebrating Their 20th Anniversary in 2025

Over the last few decades, the motorcycle industry has experienced remarkable progress, particularly regarding safety features. While the horsepower of motorcycles began increasing in the 1980s, advancements in chassis and tire technologies lagged for some time. It wasn’t until the early 2000s that motorcycle frame technology finally aligned with the soaring horsepower figures. Tire technology improved alongside, making it much easier to handle all that power. By 2005, fast motorcycles had become significantly safer, and nowadays, many of these models are quite affordable on the second-hand market.

To provide the most current and accurate information, this article relies on data sourced from various manufacturer websites and reputable sources, including brand-specific official sites. Purchasing a used motorcycle carries inherent risks, so we encourage thorough research and caution. The motorcycles listed here have been rated based on horsepower, utilizing established methodologies.

When Harley-Davidson enlisted Porsche to help develop a new liquid-cooled V-twin, many longtime fans were shocked. This innovative approach to design has become more common with liquid-cooled models, but at the time, the V-Rod sparked considerable debate. Today, it offers tremendous value when compared to older, less powerful air-cooled models that remain surprisingly expensive.

For some, paying this amount for a pre-owned Japanese motorcycle might seem excessive, while for others, acquiring a modern classic at such a low price appears outrageous. The Rune is likely to gain collectibility status due to its remarkable construction, rarity, and fascinating history. However, it currently occupies a gray area — not quite collectible enough for many, yet not affordable enough for casual use.

In the early 2000s, Aprilia carved out a unique segment of the market by offering an alternative option. Though these bikes were relatively pricey when new, you can now find them for under $5,000. However, the wiring issues commonly associated with Italian bikes are less timeless, and the inline-4 co-developed with Ferrari is not famous for its reliability. Trump Promises Fair Trade: Plans to Implement Reciprocal Tariffs on India

Mangalore Today News Network

Washington DC, February 22, 2025: US President Donald Trump announced on Friday his intention to implement reciprocal tariffs on countries including India and China, emphasizing that the United States will impose tariffs equivalent to those levied by these nations on American products.

Trump stated, “We will soon impose reciprocal tariffs — they charge us, we charge them. Whatever a company or a country, like India or China, charges us, we want to be fair; thus, reciprocal.”

Trump

He further explained, “We have never done that before. We were preparing to do it until Covid interrupted our plans.”

During a prior press conference, ahead of his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Trump remarked on India’s tariff framework, stating “they have the highest tariffs” making it challenging to conduct business there.

He commented on Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s discussion with PM Modi, saying, “They met. I presume he intends to operate in India. However, India is a tough market due to its tariffs. They impose the highest tariffs… It’s a difficult environment for business. I would assume he met with Modi because he’s passionate about the opportunity after all this time,” Trump noted.

In regard to reciprocal tariffs, Trump brought attention to India’s previous trade practices, recalling how Harley-Davidson motorcycles had to establish manufacturing plants overseas due to steep import duties.

“Typically, India ranks very high in tariffs. A few smaller nations might surpass it, but India’s tariffs are significant. I remember when Harley Davidson struggled to sell their bikes in India because the tax and tariff rates were exorbitant, requiring the company to build production facilities abroad,” he relayed, as reported by US Network Pool via Reuters.

Trump Promises Reciprocal Tariffs on India and China Amid Ongoing Trade War

Washington DC: On Friday, US President Donald Trump announced plans to soon implement reciprocal tariffs targeting countries like India and China, emphasizing that the United States will impose the same tariffs that these nations apply to American products.

Trump stated, “We will soon implement reciprocal tariffs—they charge us, we charge them. Whatever a country or company, such as India or China, imposes, we aim to be fair; that is the essence of reciprocity.”

He further mentioned, “We have never done that before. We were on the verge of doing so until Covid arrived.”

In a statement prior to his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Trump had expressed concerns about India’s tariff policies, remarking that “they have the highest tariffs” and noted that “it is difficult to conduct business there.”

Trump’s comments came during a press conference where he was asked about Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s meeting with PM Modi.

“They met. I assume he is interested in doing business in India. However, it’s a challenging environment for business due to the tariffs. They have the highest tariffs. It’s quite a tough place for business operations. I would assume he met with PM Modi possibly because he is leading a company and has been passionate about this for a long time,” Trump stated.

Addressing the topic of reciprocal tariffs, Trump referenced India’s historical trade practices, using Harley-Davidson motorcycles as an example of how American firms have been compelled to establish manufacturing facilities overseas to avoid high import duties.

“Historically, India has been among those with the highest tariffs. While a few smaller countries exceed them, India imposes significant tariffs. I recall that Harley-Davidson faced challenges selling their bikes in India due to the exorbitant taxes and tariffs, which ultimately forced them to set up manufacturing there,” he noted, as reported by US Network Pool via Reuters.

What Harley-Davidson Needs to Do to Ensure Its Survival

Harley-Davidson stands at a pivotal point. The company struggles with adapting to the market, despite its loyal following and rich heritage. Its product lineup remains costly and primarily tailored for older demographics, limiting its appeal to younger riders. To ensure its survival, Harley-Davidson must embrace both product innovation and advancements in manufacturing.

Today’s market is calling for affordability. Brands like Triumph, Royal Enfield, and Honda thrive by offering budget-friendly options, while Harley still positions most of its models in the $20,000 to $40,000 range. The X350 and X440 motorcycles are hard to find in key markets, and there is no logical progression for riders who start with these entry-level bikes to transition into Harley’s heavyweight cruiser segment.

What Harley-Davidson Needs to Do to Ensure Its Survival

For Harley to thrive in the U.S. market, it needs to launch an affordable entry-level motorcycle priced under $10,000, which should integrate its Riding Academy program. Offering discounts to new riders could foster brand loyalty from the outset, cultivating lifelong customers. Additionally, the company must broaden its product offerings beyond heavyweight cruisers. The Pan America adventure bike displayed potential, yet Harley-Davidson has not adequately capitalized on it. Introducing a middleweight or small-displacement option akin to KTM’s 390 Adventure or Honda’s Transalp could unlock new revenue avenues and capture wider customer interest.

Harley Davidson’s stagnation in innovative model development poses a significant risk to its future viability. While the company has the potential to produce affordable, versatile lightweight motorcycles, it must act decisively. As Harley’s existing riders age, the younger generation shows a disinterest in its expensive cruiser models. To engage a more diverse audience, Harley needs to revise its pricing strategy, introduce fresh designs, and launch more budget-friendly motorcycles.

The motorcycle market is evolving, and Harley must transform its operations to stay relevant. Adapting to an inclusive and broader future is essential for Harley-Davidson to survive the challenges it has faced in the past.
