Richard Thomas Frances (Ritchie) Carroll March 11, 1950 – May 23, 2025
Richard departed with an angel on a Harley from his residence at Princess Court, Dryden, ON.
He was predeceased by his parents, George Edward (Ned) Carroll and Margaret (Trist) Carroll. Richard is survived by his Aunt Joyce Closen in Sioux Lookout, Uncle George Trist in Dryden, numerous cousins, and many members of his biker family.
Richard studied in Sioux Lookout and graduated from Dryden High. During his student years, he worked at Harley’s supermarket, where he made many friends with his friendly and helpful demeanor.
After high school, he worked as a bull cook for CN Rail and later at the Dryden mill, where he held several roles until earning his millwright certification.
Following his retirement, Richard joined friends at Spud Plains Farms in Manitoba. Although this was a different experience for him, he cherished his time spent there each year.
In the late 80s, Richard transitioned from four-wheeled vehicles to Harley Davidsons, starting with a burgundy model, followed by an anniversary edition springer, and ultimately a Dyna trike. Throughout his journeys on those Harleys, he took part in various local rides, including Toys for Tots and Ride for Sight, traversing much of Canada and the USA. He shared a special bond with his biker friends.
Some of Richard’s favorite activities included spending time with family and spoiling their children and pets (both dogs & cats). His Rottweilers were intimidating in appearance but friendly in nature. He enjoyed observing the wildlife in his yard, particularly the deer—though hunting privileges were off-limits there. His favorite holiday was St. Patrick’s Day, where his Irish heritage truly shone through as he dressed the part and celebrated like a true Irishman.
We extend our gratitude to everyone who provided exceptional care for Richard since January. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Dryden Hospital, as well as the team and residents of Princess Court, who welcomed him into their community. A heartfelt thank you to Sharon Robinson for taking her long-time friend “Ritchie” under her wing, motivating him to engage in activities and get active.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 2 p.m. at the Wabigoon Hall, officiated by Velma Henderson.
In lieu of flowers, we invite you to come and share your memories of Richard with family and friends.
