Keanu Reeves’ Harley Davidson CVO Road Glide Motorcycle: Features and Gallery

If you buy a product or service that has been independently reviewed via a link on our site, Variety may earn an affiliate commission.

Keanu Reeves was seen at Daytona Bike Week earlier this month, testing the newly launched Harley-Davidson CVO Road Glide RR, referred to as the “most powerful and dynamic production motorcycle” in the company’s 122-year history.

Reeves has been passionate about motorcycles for years and the “Sonic” actor even launched his own motorcycle brand in 2011, featuring a limited-edition sportbike designed on a Harley-styled chassis. Along with Gard Hollinger, his co-founder at Arch Motorcycle, Reeves is featured in the Roku Channel docuseries “Visionaries,” showcasing their travels around the world to meet innovators and inspiring creatives (you can stream the series online through any Roku device).

The Harley-Davidson CVO Road Glide RR brings together modern styles and performance. Its graphics are inspired by the livery of the 2025 Harley-Davidson Factory Racing Team, featuring elegant leather accents, dark carbon fiber weaving, Hog Black engine components, and vibrant “Racing Orange” highlights on the lifter tubes and rocker boxes. The rim’s subtle red “CVO RR” logo is laser-etched on the wheels. With a new Screamin’ Eagle 131 V-Twin engine, this motorcycle promises peak torque and horsepower, all wrapped in a sleek aerodynamic design.

The CVO Road Glide RR also introduces a new premium audio system developed in partnership with Rockford Fosgate. Officially called “Harley-Davidson Audio powered by Rockford Fosgate Stage III,” it features a pair of three-way, 6.5-inch speakers delivering up to 250 watts. Additionally, the bike includes a 12.3-inch infotainment screen for seamless integration with Apple CarPlay as well as music apps via WiFi or Bluetooth. Plus, it comes equipped with a wireless headset to ensure you can enjoy your favorite tunes while riding.

Only 131 units of the Harley-Davidson CVO Road Glide RR were produced, each carrying a retail price of $110,000. Although it’s unclear if Reeves purchased one for himself, potential buyers can find more information on the Harley website.

Harley-Davidson in a press release stated that this motorcycle model integrates remarkable performance with the meticulous custom details that define Harley-Davidson’s Custom Vehicle Operation (CVO) limited edition motorcycles.

“Drawing inspiration from the racetrack to the street, the Harley-Davidson CVO Road Glide RR represents the pinnacle of performance,” said Jochen Zeitz, Chairman, CEO, and President. “With this exclusive motorcycle series, we’ve applied all track-derived insights to create the ultimate street-legal bagger performance.”

10 Surprising Features of Harley-Davidson Motorcycles You Probably Didn’t Know About

Harley enthusiasts might be missing out on some exciting features. When acquiring a new or pre-owned bike, sales representatives or individual sellers frequently overlook many of its impressive built-in functionalities. This could be due to time constraints or the assumption that buyers will only be interested in the basics. Although these features are outlined in the owner’s manual, most riders are unlikely to browse through it unless searching for something specific.

Since the inception of the first Harley-Davidson motorcycle in 1903, the Wisconsin-based manufacturer has made its mark in the biking community. Harley-Davidson is well-known for seamlessly merging classic aesthetics with cutting-edge technology. This is exemplified by the 2024 Road Glide, which is equipped with innovative, discreet enhancements that elevate its iconic design. Features such as advanced riding modes, customizable suspension, and hidden diagnostic tools can greatly improve the overall riding experience, often without the rider realizing their presence.

This article serves as your guide to unveiling the hidden conveniences of the Road Glide. It showcases 10 lesser-known Harley-Davidson features that you might not be aware of. Equipped with this information, you’ll be able to maximize your motorcycle’s potential from the get-go. Don’t forget to refer to your owner’s manual for further details and potential differences across various models and years.

Accessory mode

The 2024 Road Glide showcases a practical accessory mode that enables you to interact with the bike’s electronic features without starting the engine. To engage this mode, ensure your key fob is on hand and press and hold the trip switch. This allows the instruments and accessory circuit to power up while the headlamp and turn signals remain off, conserving battery power as you check your bike’s settings. In accessory mode, the Infotainment Control Unit (IFCU) shows key information such as the fuel gauge and odometer, allowing you to keep track of fuel and mileage without turning the engine on.

For instance, if you need to activate the headlamp briefly for visibility, you can do so by pressing the flash-to-pass button. Once you’re done, simply press and hold the trip switch to turn the motorcycle off. Keep in mind that accessory mode is meant for short-term use; prolonged usage can drain the battery. If the bike is in accessory mode for two hours, it will automatically shut off to prevent battery depletion. To reactivate after an automatic shutdown, just press and hold the trip switch again.

This feature offers a practical means to review essential info and modify settings while saving energy.

Transport mode

The 2024 Road Glide features a special transport mode designed for safely moving your motorcycle on a trailer or during brief transport. This function allows you to keep the security system enabled without triggering the motion detector, meaning that moving the bike won’t activate the alarm. However, the bike cannot be started in transport mode until it detects the key fob, ensuring that your motorcycle remains secure during transport, eliminating the risk of accidental starts.

Entering transport mode is a straightforward process that requires precise execution. With the security fob present, position the OFF/RUN/START switch to RUN, then immediately switch it to OFF. Within five seconds of turning the switch off, press the left turn signal and the flash-to-pass switch simultaneously. Completing this sequence correctly will display a transport mode icon on the IFCU (Infotainment Control Unit), indicating that the security system is now in transport mode.

Exiting transport mode is equally simple. Set the OFF/RUN/START switch back to RUN while keeping the fob present, disarming the system and allowing the motorcycle to start normally. This feature offers enhanced convenience and security for dealers or owners needing to move the bike without risking system activation or battery drainage.

Rear suspension adjustments

Another frequently overlooked feature in the 2024 Road Glide is its adjustable rear suspension. Many riders assume that suspension settings are fixed, but Harley has engineered this system to allow adjustments to accommodate riding style, road conditions, and varying loads. The initial damping settings (compression and rebound) are calibrated for a solo rider, but if you often have passengers or carry extra weight, you can make incremental changes to enhance your ride.

To elaborate, compression damping affects how the suspension compresses when encountering a bump, while rebound damping controls how quickly it returns to its original position after being compressed. Additionally, preload adjustments are available to help manage the sag of the suspension, whether you’re riding solo or with a passenger, or carrying gear. Ensuring the correct preload maintains the suspension within its ideal operating range, improving stability and comfort.

Making these adjustments requires careful, minor tweaks, as significant changes can lead to overshooting the optimal setting or damaging the shock absorbers. Use the included spanner wrench to adjust the threaded preload adjusters on the rear shocks, and always avoid overtightening. With some trial and error along with a bumpy road for testing, you can achieve the ideal setup that meets your specific riding preferences, transforming your experience into a smoother and more tailored ride.

Adjustable brake lever

One feature that many Road Glide riders might not even be aware of is the adjustable front brake lever. This customization tool significantly enhances rider comfort and control. The front brake lever of the 2024 Road Glide can be fine-tuned to accommodate various hand sizes and riding styles. Whether you have smaller hands or prefer a more instantaneous braking experience, it allows adjustment of the distance between the lever and the handlebar grip.

To make this adjustment, start by slightly pushing the brake lever away from the grip to relieve pressure on the adjuster. Then, rotate the brake lever adjustment thumbwheel to the left or right. Rotating it to reduce the distance brings the lever closer, while turning it the other way increases the gap. This minor modification can lead to a more comfortable reach, resulting in quicker, more confident braking during rides, especially in urgent situations.

It’s crucial, however, to maintain proper finger placement for safe braking. If fingers remain between the lever and grip, it can impede lever functionality, leading to a potential loss of control. Moreover, balancing your braking approach by using both the front lever and rear pedal accordingly is essential to avoiding wheel lock, which could result in skidding or serious accidents.

The adjustable brake lever might seem subtle, but it’s a powerful feature that allows riders to fine-tune their braking experience.

Heated gear connections

While many riders are aware of heated grips and seats, few know that Harley has incorporated power ports specifically designed for heated gear accessories, such as gloves or vests, tucked away beneath the seat. This feature aims to boost rider comfort during colder months, ensuring that critical heated gear is powered up on brisk mornings and winter rides.

Housed in a discreet compartment under the seat, these connections are easily accessible yet unobtrusive, maintaining the classic look of the Road Glide. To use this feature, follow the instructions in your owner’s manual to remove the screw or unlock the compartment. Once accessed, you’ll find two connections ready to deliver power directly from the bike’s electrical system. This integration allows riders to benefit from additional warmth without bulky external devices or complicated modifications.

Many riders may not realize these connections’ advantages until they experience the luxury of having heated gear powered directly from their bike. It’s a small detail that can greatly enhance comfort on lengthy rides or in bleak weather, ensuring that comfort and performance coexist.

Hill hold control

Hill Hold Control, also known as Vehicle Hold Control (VHC), is a feature that might go unnoticed by some riders, but it can significantly improve your experience on inclines. This system utilizes brake pressure to prevent your motorcycle from rolling backward when stopped on a slope. When you come to a complete stop and apply extra pressure on either the front brake lever or rear brake pedal, the VHC activates, retaining the brake pressure even after you release the controls. An indicator light will confirm that the system is active, allowing you to park with peace of mind without a risk of rolling back.

To activate the system, simply apply a bit more pressure than usual when stopping. If you brake hard and maintain that pressure, the system may engage automatically, even without an extra push. However, keep in mind that VHC is not intended to function as a parking brake; it exclusively assists you when starting from an incline.

The system deactivates automatically once you begin to pull away, either by engaging the throttle and clutch or by releasing the brake firmly. If there’s no rider action for five minutes, the VHC will release to avoid overheating. However, it’s worth noting that on very steep hills or uneven surfaces, VHC might not be able to hold the bike entirely, so always be ready to take control.

Customizable infotainment layouts

A hidden feature of the 2024 Road Glide is its fully customizable Skyline OS infotainment system. This allows riders to tailor their dashboard display to suit their individual riding preferences and needs instead of being locked into a standard layout. Whether you prefer a performance-focused setup or a comfort-oriented touring layout, the system enables easy switching between various configurations.

In its standard mode, the display combines digital accuracy with an analog feel, featuring a speedometer, tachometer, and various handy widgets that display navigation data, tire pressure, ambient air temperature, and coolant temperature. If a more dynamic interface suits your style, cycling through available modes such as sport or touring will bring up alternative layouts that emphasize either performance metrics or navigation aids. By pressing the trip button, you can toggle through these modes, giving you a customized display ideal for your specific ride.

This degree of personalization not only boosts convenience but also ensures that critical information is readily accessible.

Concealed USB charging ports

Across the 2024 Harley lineup (whether you’re riding a Street Glide or a Road Glide), the discreetly integrated USB-C port located in the media compartment on the side of the fairing is a feature many might overlook. This provides a handy way to keep your devices charged while on the move.

When the motorcycle is powered on or in accessory mode, the USB-C port activates, allowing you to connect your phone, media device, or USB drive directly to the bike’s system. To utilize the port, simply push down on the latch, release the spring-loaded door, and open the compartment. Once connected using an appropriate interface cable, securely close the compartment door by pushing until the latch engages. It’s vital to keep this compartment securely closed during rides to prevent items from falling out, and it’s prudent to remove valuable items if leaving the bike unattended.

The versatility of this port means it can charge your phone and facilitate media playback, but it does come with certain restrictions. Not all media devices or file types are compatible with the IFCU, and using media players with hard drives can be problematic as vibrations might damage them. Additionally, the Road Glide primarily uses Bluetooth connectivity for phone functions such as calling and texting, rather than utilizing the USB port.

Hidden diagnostic mode

Many Harley riders may not realize that their 2024 Road Glide includes a built-in health monitoring system. Hidden within the digital dashboard is a diagnostic mode that can prove essential for troubleshooting or simply starting conversations with your mechanic. This feature allows you to access critical system information, including tire pressure, battery voltage, and other vital operational metrics, without the need for a service visit.

Accessing this mode is straightforward: hold the trip button while pressing the ignition switch. After activation, retrieving diagnostic information involves navigating through the bike’s settings menu. Once enabled, the diagnostic mode will provide real-time feedback on various components, allowing you to monitor engine performance and electronic system statuses. For tech-savvy riders, having this feature means identifying potential issues before they escalate into costly repairs, ensuring your bike remains in optimal condition between scheduled services.

What’s intriguing about this feature is its subtle nature; it’s somewhat hidden, almost as if Harley wants to reward the discerning rider who digs deeper into their bike’s technology. You might not think to explore this function, but once you do, you’ll enjoy having direct insight into the Road Glide’s inner workings.

Apple CarPlay

Concluding our list is the inclusion of Apple CarPlay, a system that allows seamless connectivity between your smartphone’s functionalities and your bike’s display without necessitating app downloads. With Apple CarPlay, only Apple-approved applications are displayed, ensuring a streamlined interface designed for road use. Unlike traditional systems that depend on cumbersome modules, CarPlay on the Road Glide is available wirelessly once your phone is paired via Bluetooth — or you can opt for a USB connection.

To activate Apple CarPlay, switch your bike to accessory or ignition mode, and select Apple CarPlay from the home menu. However, keep in mind that CarPlay requires the use of a compatible headset and microphone to function properly. This enhancement ensures a hands-free experience that is perfect for long rides.

Many riders may be unaware of this sophisticated connectivity feature integrated into their Road Glide. Apple CarPlay enables easy access to navigation, music, and communication functions through your bike’s display, keeping you connected while preserving the classic Harley essence.

8 Unique Features That Distinguish Harley-Davidson from Other Cruiser Brands

Harley-Davidson is a name synonymous with cruisers, and it is America’s longest-running motorcycle company. It can’t claim to be the oldest, but it has never taken a break from selling motorcycles, although it came close to shutting its doors a couple of times over the decades. Other American manufacturers have all, without exception, shut down for a period of time.

Today, Harley is slowly expanding beyond the cruiser segment into other segments that also promote exploration on two wheels, just like its core cruiser and tourer lineup. There is something about the brand that has grown over the years that makes it endear like no other. It is something that almost cannot be articulated, but we’re going to try our hardest to express it in this article.

To ensure accuracy, the information compiled in this article was sourced from the manufacturer’s official websites, as well as other authoritative sources.

Unforgettable Moments In The History Of Harley-Davidson

120 years of history, with a lot of milestones along the way

1

A Storied History

One Of The Oldest Continuously Selling Brands

Harley-Davidson Model 1

Wikipedia

Harley-Davidson is the oldest continuously operating American motorcycle manufacturer. However, it is also one of the oldest continuously selling motorcycle marques in the world, second only to Royal Enfield. Royal Enfield had a long period of stagnation where it essentially made and sold the same model from the end of World War 2 until current ownership took over and started changing things in the early 1990s. Harley-Davidson also had lean periods, most notably the 1970s when the government had to bail it out by imposing import tariffs on large-displacement motorcycles.

That unwittingly gave us a run of turbocharged motorcycles that we haven’t seen since. However, Harley-Davidson continued to innovate and put out motorcycles that were desirable when those lean periods were in the mirror. It was also involved in the war effort, supplying motorcycles that would help the effort in the World Wars, helping contribute to the patriotic brand image that keeps it so dear to many Americans.

Strong Brand Value

The Badge Means A Lot

There is a lot of pride in being American, and Harley-Davidson prides itself on being American-made. Only in its very recent history has the company started assembling motorcycles outside the USA; currently, there is a plant each in Brazil and Thailand, and there used to be an assembly plant in India. However, any Harley you buy in the USA is assembled in the USA, and this matters to fans of the brand.

This is an increasingly difficult situation for the company, since manufacturers are global entities, and brands across segments have ownership that is purely financial, and nothing to do with the history of the brand. However, Harley-Davidson has been the best American motorcycle company for a long time now, and that is in no small part due to the pride and ownership that its employees and customers take in its products.

Luckily for Harley-Davidson, it operates in a space where profit margins are considerable. So it can afford to price its products well despite the higher costs of production. Also, in a marketing masterstroke, the brand has managed to turn the financial disadvantage of manufacturing in the USA into positive press, which helps sell more motorcycles.

Unique Character

A Torquey V-Twin Reminds Us Of One Brand Only

2019 Harley-Davidson Iron 883 Evolution engine close-up detail

Harley-Davidson

Harley-Davidson’s first-ever motorcycle was a single-cylinder model, and by 1909, it had developed its first v-twin. It wasn’t long after that it had its first successful v-twin with the Model 7D that was launched in 1911. This long-stroke, narrow-angle twin-cylinder configuration has been a signature of the brand ever since. The single crank pin and bank angle have given Harleys their signature ‘potato potato’ idle sound over the decades, and the advantages of the v-twin configuration have allowed it to make some astonishingly great motorcycles for cruising and touring.

This format was so successful that the Japanese started making their own cruisers and tourers with a narrow-angle v-twin, some of which were truly great competition. But they invariably missed out on that certain something that cannot be described logically. The Japanese had the measure of Harley when it came to reliability, refinement, and specs – Japan even produced the largest v-twin in the history of motorcycles – but none of them could bring in the customers like good ol’ American iron could.

Brotherhood Of Bikers

Do The Letters ‘HOG’ Ring A Bell?

Motorcycling has been perceived as a rebellious activity in the USA since the car is the default mode of transportation. Plus, for most of the country, the winter months won’t allow you to stay on two wheels anyway. This led to bikers being a close-knit community, and sometimes, there was notoriety associated with it. This gave rise to the ‘bad boy biker’ image, which was also appealing on some levels – the adage of all publicity being good publicity does hold true sometimes!

Harley-Davidson was savvy enough to see the potential in this feeling of kinship, and the first Harley Owners’ Group was formed in 1983. It was formed to build closer bonds between customers and the touchpoints of the company, but it has proven to be the single most effective marketing tool in H-D’s history. It is so successful that owner groups are now common across motorcycle brands, with the aim of replicating the success that the Harley Owners’ Group brought to Harley-Davidson.

5

The Accessories

Not Many Can Accessorize Like A Harley

Harley-Davidson Top Motorcycle Gifts For Him-09

Harley-Davidson / TopSpeed

Today, you can accessorize a motorcycle with an endless list of accessories, both OEM as well as aftermarket. Some motorcycle models are more conducive to this accessorizing, like tourers and adventure motorcycles. There are basic things like luggage (both hard and soft, waterproof, lockable), taller or more aerodynamic windscreens, lights, wheels, paint jobs, rims, and seats; the list is endless. Harley-Davidson was one of the few manufacturers along with the likes of Ferrari that recognized the power of the brand and used merchandise to increase profits.

If you had a Harley-Davidson, you’d get some of the accessories mentioned above, but you would also have the option of purchasing a branded jacket, boots, gloves, jeans, sunglasses, bandanna, underwear (we kid you not), baby booties, a whiskey glass set… do you see where this is going? This, like the Harley Owners’ Group, opened up the brand to people who weren’t going to buy one of the motorcycles but loved the brand anyway. Its success is not measured just by how much it contributes to the profits every year, but by the fact that every single automotive company has performed this with varying degrees of success.

Potential For Customization

It May Be A Brotherhood, But Standing Out Is Important

Motorcycles, unlike cars, aren’t just appliances that help the owner get from point A to point B and back safely. They’re exhilarating, impractical, and dangerous. It stands to reason then that most motorcyclists will want to stand out from the crowd – even if it is a relatively small crowd of motorcyclists. For this, one needs a motorcycle that is easy to customize. Harley-Davidsons of old were simple enough that you wouldn’t upset the balance or performance with customization, and the manufacturer has been at the forefront of the customization scene ever since. Bobbers, choppers… you’ll find them all.

Once more, Harley has managed to take this a step further and offer ‘factory custom’ motorcycles with upgrades galore. You’ve already heard of Screamin’ Eagle exhaust and air filter upgrades, and you might know that there are crate engine upgrades as well for a lot of the Harley range. But did you know that you can also purchase a Screamin’ Eagle spark plug lead upgrade? Other upgrades include suspension with more adjustability (and by top quality brands like Öhlins), touring seats, and audio system upgrades from brands like Rockford Fosgate.

Harley’s Role In Pop Culture

Prominent Both In Real-Life As Well As Big Screen Heroes

Peter Fonda Captain America Motorcycle from Easy Rider

No matter what generation you’re from, we can assure you that a Harley-Davidson has not just been present in an influential area of pop culture but also helped enhance whatever it was present in. The movie Easy Rider is an obvious one, with its ‘Captain America’ Harley-Davidson. Many decades (and a couple of generations) later, Captain America himself rode a Harley-Davidson, as did Jason Momoa’s character Dante in Fast X. Between these two extremes were a raft of movies, including Ghost Rider, Wild Hogs (bonus points if you remember this one), and Terminator 2, all of which featured a Harley-Davidson prominently.

There have been more than a few songs written with Harley-Davidsons as the theme, most recently Katy Perry with her song ‘Harleys In Hawaii’, which, last we checked, had clocked over 170 million views on YouTube. That’s a lot of marketing for the brand. In real life, The King Of Rock N’ Roll had more than a few Harleys in his garage; Elvis’s love for his H-Ds was well known. Evel Knievel’s most famous jumps were done astride an XR750, too.

Success In Racing

A Storied Racing History

Harley-Davidson-VR1000-2

Mecum Auctions

Harley might be the default manufacturer when it comes to cruisers or tourers, but that doesn’t mean that it hasn’t involved itself in racing. Yes, it does participate in the King Of The Baggers today, but its racing history goes back a little further. Thanks to Walter Davidson, Harley entered its first race in 1906. Four years later, the original ‘Wrecking Crew’ was formed, and by 1921, it was setting records in racing, with a small break to help with WW1.

In the 1930s, Harley was the dominant brand in racing in the USA, but by the ‘50s, the British motorcycles were leading the way with their lighter curb weights. Harley hit back in the 1960s with the KR and KRTT, and it was so successful that the media resurrected the ‘Wrecking Crew’ name. The 70s brought the XR 750 with the alloy engine, and this is the most successful racer in AMA history. If you think Ducati in MotoGP is dominant today, it is nothing compared to what the XR 750 did in its time. In the 80s, Harley-Davidson dreamed of competing in WSBK, and designed the VR 1000 to compete in the AMA Superbike racing series. Success was a far-fetched dream, though.

Harley-Davidson V-Rod Destroyer

Harley-Davidson

More recently, in the 2000s, the company offered a select number of customers what was officially known as the Harley-Davidson VRXSC Screamin’ Eagle V-Rod Destroyer, a factory drag racer that was not only fast but reliable. The engine needed a rebuild only at the end of the season, which is unique in the drag racing world. It came complete with a wheelie bar and quick-change enabled ratios, and was capable of 9-second passes even with a novice, as long as said novice knew what to do.
