Doc’s Harley-Davidson store in Kirkwood, Missouri, located approximately 20 minutes from St. Louis, made the announcement via social media.

On May 30, the dealership revealed it would merge with Gateway Harley-Davidson, creating a new dealership under a new ownership structure.

“We are excited to share the start of a thrilling new chapter for Doc’s Harley-Davidson,” the announcement stated.

“This week, we unite with Gateway Harley-Davidson to form the all-new St. Louis Harley-Davidson.”

The Schipper Family has taken ownership of Doc’s Harley-Davidson, succeeding Beth Ernst, who had been the owner since 2015.

Doc’s Harley-Davidson was established by mechanic and racer Doc, who later passed the business to his son, Ralph, according to the Webster-Kirkwood Times.

Patty Bush, Doc’s daughter, managed the business until 2015 when she sold it to Ernst.

The sale has surprised local officials and residents.

“No one at city hall was aware of Doc’s closure,” remarked Kirkwood Mayor Liz Gibbons to the Times.

The business will now be operated by the Gateway Harley-Davidson dealership, which has been around since 1948.

Community members in Kirkwood expressed their sadness over Doc’s closing.

“A sad day for Kirkwood and the motorcycle community,” one local lamented.

“Thank you for all the memories.”

Doc’s shared a heartfelt message on Facebook two days after its closure announcement, expressing gratitude to the local community for its support.

“Doc’s Harley-Davidson has been more than just a dealership—it’s been a home for riders, an integral part of the community, and a place where lasting memories were created.

“As we conclude this chapter, we do so with deep appreciation for the friendships, loyalty, and shared enthusiasm that defined Doc’s,” the post continued.

  • December 2024: In the fourth quarter, the company reported a loss of $117 million, with domestic market share decreasing by 13% in that period
  • February 2025: The trade conflict between Europe and the Trump administration prompts Harley-Davidson’s CEO to declare a commitment to “aggressively” combat any tariffs, as reported by Milwaukee Journal
  • April 1, 2025: Board member Jared Dourdeville announces his resignation and calls for Zeitz’s retirement, citing the “cultural” decline of the company
  • April 8, 2025: Zeitz declares his intention to step down while remaining CEO until a successor is appointed

“While change is not easy, we’re eager to embark on our next journey at St. Louis Harley-Davidson. Here’s to new roads, new memories, and the same wonderful spirit that has unified us all.”

Over 500 users reacted to the post, and more than 100 followers shared their cherished memories of the establishment.

“I took my riders edge class there and bought my first Harley from Doug. I joined the Hog Chapter and learned about riding there,” commented one man.

“I relocated to North Carolina 15 years ago, but I often visit and always stopped by when I was in town. It was ‘my’ Harley store. I loved knowing Doug and still consider him a friend. I hope my story resonates with others.

“Thank you for everything, good luck guys. I will still stop in to see you during my next visit.”

Video: SUV Crashes into Kalamazoo Gas Station, Leaving Several Injured

KALAMAZOO, MI — On a typical sunny afternoon, motorcyclists gathered at a gas station in Kalamazoo, preparing to get back on their bikes.

In a matter of moments, the calm atmosphere was shattered. An SUV surged through the crowd, vehicles, and a gas pump, causing chaos on Wednesday, March 19, at 3908 S. Westnedge Ave.

Initially, seven individuals were reported injured, according to KDPS, with two requiring hospitalization for their injuries.

The two hospitalized individuals have since been discharged, as confirmed by Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Spokesman Zach Hamelton on Wednesday, April 16.

Hamelton mentioned that one of the injured has begun physical rehabilitation.

Witnesses were seen fleeing in various directions to escape the aftermath of the collision.

A truck that had been parked was pushed out of the frame, while a motorcycle fell over, spilling gasoline as a man scrambled away, clutching his face.

Authorities are still awaiting forensic and toxicology results before proceeding with the investigation.

The driver of the GMC Terrain involved in the incident has been cooperative during the investigation, according to police.

When questioned by police, the driver claimed he had not consumed alcohol that day, as per a police report obtained by MLive through the Freedom of Information Act.

According to the police report, the driver sustained a cut, which he attributed to the airbag deployment.

While investigating the accident, the driver was detained and consented to a blood draw; an officer noted that there was no smell of intoxicants during their interaction.
