What are the defects?
A specific batch of oil filters has a manufacturing flaw that may lead to a loose threaded connection at high RPM.
This defect can cause oil leaks, which may result in an engine stall or, if there is an ignition source, potentially lead to a vehicle fire.
These oil filters might have been installed during service or oil changes.
What are the hazards?
An engine stall or vehicle fire presents a heightened risk of serious injury or death to riders, other road users, bystanders, and may also cause property damage.
What should consumers do?
Owners of the affected models should urgently contact their nearest authorized BMW Motorrad dealer or call BMW Australia’s hotline at 1800 243 675.
The installed oil filter will be inspected and replaced if necessary, with all services provided at no cost.
