Paul Quick Morrow | News from Iredell Free

Paul Quick Morrow | News from Iredell FreePaul Quick Morrow | News from Iredell Free

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Paul Quick Morrow, a truly unique husband, father, brother, son, remarkable uncle, and friend. Paul embarked on his final journey on March 21, 2025, at the age of 61. While we are still trying to adjust to life without him, we find comfort in knowing he was embraced in Heaven by his parents, Elizabeth and Murray (Slim) Morrow, and his brother Ronnie, alongside many other cherished family and friends.

Paul was a family man at heart. He was a devoted husband to Nina and a proud father to Gibson and Melody. As the youngest sibling to George, Sandy, Jackie, Dick, and Nancy, he was also an incredibly fun uncle who always arrived with a smile, a huge hug, and a witty remark. His family meant the world to him, and regardless of life’s challenges, he continually prioritized their needs.

Known as “Aqua Man,” Paul had an unwavering passion for motorcycles. When he wasn’t with family, you could find him riding his Harley Davidson. His beaming smile gave away his excitement whenever he was out for a ride. The joy of cruising with his wife, family, and friends filled him with happiness, and he rode with the fervor that only a true Harley enthusiast could understand. We wouldn’t be surprised if he rode his bike into the afterlife if he could.

Let’s not overlook Paul’s love for drumming. Whether he was engaged in a jam session with friends or putting on a private concert in his garage, the world was his stage. If there was a rhythm, Paul was there; if there wasn’t, he’d create one. Music was a language he spoke fluently.

Paul possessed a rare gift of genuine sincerity, treating everyone—including strangers—as if they were longtime friends. His humor, generosity, and infectious grin made a lasting impact on everyone he encountered. He was the type of person who could light up a room simply by walking in with a broad smile and open arms for everyone.

This is how we’ll remember him: the Harley-riding, music-loving soul who never met a stranger. His absence is immeasurable, but we’ll honor his legacy by emulating his kindness and love.

The warm welcome party in Heaven includes Paul’s loving parents, Elizabeth and Murray (Slim) Morrow; brother Ronnie; nieces Collen and Sandy; nephews Kenny, Jeremy, Preston, and Shane; father-in-law Roy Herman; and Frank Arnold.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Nina; children Gibson and Melody; sisters Sandy, Jackie, and Nancy (Mike); brothers George and Dick (Cindy); and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews (we lost count).

A celebration of life service will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at the Heritage House of Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. before the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Paul’s honor may be made to the Glioblastoma Foundation. (https://glioblastomafoundation.org

EU Aims at Trump’s Core Support with Multi-Billion Dollar Counter-Tariffs – Channel 4 News

12 Mar 2025

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the EU must take action “to safeguard consumers and businesses.”

EU Aims at Trump’s Core Support with Multi-Billion Dollar Counter-Tariffs – Channel 4 News
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen

The EU plans to direct €26 billion towards targeting Republican strongholds through ‘counter-measures’ in response to tariffs enacted by Donald Trump.

Today, US trade tariffs of 25 percent on all global imports of steel and aluminum began to take effect.

“We firmly believe that in a world filled with geo-economic and political uncertainties, burdening our economies with such tariffs is not in our shared interest,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen remarked in a morning briefing.

She emphasized that the EU must act “to safeguard consumers and businesses.”

A senior EU official noted that counter-tariffs amounting to €26 billion will primarily target Trump’s closest allies, hitting products that carry significant symbolic weight.

Products subject to EU tariffs will include home appliances like refrigerators and lawn mowers, wood products vital to Republican states such as Virginia and Alabama, and agricultural items like soybean, beef, and chicken, which are critical for Nebraska and Kansas.

“These are predominantly Republican and red states, and that’s by design,” stated an EU source.

The US previously imposed tariffs on EU steel during Trump’s first term. The EU’s counter-measures had been paused due to an agreement with President Biden but now they will be reinstated.

According to the European Commission, these tariffs—which include items like Harley Davidson motorcycles, Tennessee whiskey, and Levi jeans—are expected to cost the US approximately €4.5 billion.

Furthermore, a larger wave of tariffs ranging from €18 to €21 billion is set to be enacted in mid-April unless Trump retracts his tariffs.

The European spirits sector expressed outrage over the news that it would be entangled once again in a trade conflict, which fundamentally revolves around a surplus of steel and metals globally.

“Once more, our spirits are collateral damage in a separate trade dispute,” remarked Pauline Bastidon from the trade association, Spirits Europe.

“We do not comprehend how this will contribute to resolving the larger, unrelated steel and aluminum dispute.”

The US has imposed these tariffs citing national security grounds, referencing legislation from the 1960s.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio claimed that the US is implementing tariffs to “develop domestic capabilities.”

“Without steel and aluminum, one cannot construct warships or planes,” he added.

“The US administration has adopted a detrimental course of unjustified tariffs, leaving us with no options but to retaliate,” said the EU’s Trade Commissioner, Maroš Šefčovič.

However, “we will remain open to discussions,” Ursula von der Leyen stated, as she has yet to have a meeting with President Trump.

Canada and Mexico bore the brunt of Trump’s tariffs upon his return to the White House and are now also implementing countermeasures.

This afternoon, Canada announced it would be imposing close to 30 billion Canadian dollars (approximately €20 billion) in counter tariffs on the US.

An EU source indicated that although it is in communication with global partners, including Canada, its response to the US is not part of a coordinated initiative.

The UK has adopted a different approach and has not yet initiated any retaliatory tariffs against the US. British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer affirmed that “we will keep all options open.”

The UK aims to negotiate a mini trade agreement with the US, while Starmer works to maintain a favorable relationship with President Trump.

Furthermore, unlike the EU, the UK does not face a trade deficit with the US.

“I am disheartened to witness global tariffs concerning steel and aluminum,” Starmer expressed in the House of Commons earlier.

“We will approach this thoughtfully.”

When questioned about the UK’s decision to refrain from reacting, an EU official remarked that each country exercises its “sovereignty and considers its own interests” in making decisions.

“However, it is evident that Canada’s response and the EU’s response are perhaps making better progress in discussions with the United States.”

25th Annual Great Teddy Bear Run Makes a Comeback – Bowling Green Daily News

The Beloved Teddy Bear Run Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary

Published 1:51 pm Monday, March 3, 2025

The Great Teddy Bear Run by the Barren River Area Child Advocacy Center is returning for its 25th year on April 26, aiming to raise awareness about child abuse and provide support for local children.

Sponsored by Aetna Better Health of Kentucky, the 13-mile group ride kicks off with registration at 9 a.m. at the Warren County Justice Center, concluding at 1 p.m. at Harley-Davidson of Bowling Green. The ride officially begins at 11 a.m.

Sabrina Durbin, outreach coordinator for BRACAC, mentioned that the ride serves as a fundraising opportunity, covering crucial services not financed by grants.

“These fundraisers are essential,” she emphasized.

BRACAC operates in Bowling Green, extending its services to ten surrounding counties.

“It’s a sanctuary for children and families seeking assistance following disclosures of sexual abuse,” Durbin explained. “Funds raised support these services, ensuring that costs don’t become a barrier for families during such a traumatic time.”

Some free services provided include victim advocacy, medical examinations, forensic interviews, and trauma-focused therapy.

Riders are encouraged to bring new teddy bears to attach to their motorcycles, which will be donated to child abuse victims for comfort.

In honor of the event’s 25th anniversary, new features have been introduced, such as a commemorative patch available for riders and a tattoo artist at Harley-Davidson offering special tattoos, including a teddy bear design for the occasion.

“There are many exciting elements this year,” Durbin noted. “However, the highlight remains the motorcycle ride itself, complete with a police escort through the city. It promises to be a delightful day.”

The ride concludes with a block party at Harley-Davidson featuring a silent auction, raffle, DJ, vendors, food trucks, and dessert trucks.

Online registration ends on April 22, with all sign-ups prior to April 17 receiving an event t-shirt, pin, and swag bag.

The pre-registration fee is $35 for a single rider, with an additional $25 for a passenger.

All attendees will have the opportunity to engage in fundraising efforts.

For more details and to register, please visit bracac.org.

Most collectors share a common bond: an intense passion for the things that bring them happiness.

Gayle and Terry Krentz have transformed their appreciation for Harley Davidson into more than just a hobby — it’s a way of life.

Their residence serves as a self-declared museum celebrating all things Harley Davidson. Every inch of their home radiates the spirit and colors of Harley Davidson motorcycles.

The living room showcases Harley-themed curtains and furniture, with vibrant orange and black rugs enhancing the overall decor.

The kitchen further highlights the couple’s enthusiasm for Harley memorabilia, featuring bar stools with the iconic fire logo, along with plates, cups, glasses, a clock, a trash can, cookie jars, and additional items on proud display.

Shelves overflow with collectable Harley Davidson motorcycles in Gayle and Terry Krentz’s residence.

Every bedroom transforms into a Harley-lover’s dream, adorned with curtains, bedspreads, and memorabilia. From bathroom towels to light switch covers and drawer pulls, everything showcases the signature black and orange Harley aesthetic.

The walls, filled with HD-themed artwork and Harley-decorated shelves in each room, are a testament to their deep love for Harley Davidson.

Each collectible tells a unique story, and the Krentzs cherish the history behind every piece, an authentic reflection of their devotion to their collection.

Terry Krentz started collecting memorabilia 30 years ago with his first Harley Davidson motorcycle, and his wife joined in two years later.

“It grew naturally; we didn’t aim to collect every single item associated with Harley,” Gayle Krentz explained. “It’s birthdays, anniversaries, and every visit to a dealership where you find something new. Our friends have also generously gifted us unique finds. It’s akin to anyone who collects NASCAR or sports memorabilia — there’s no difference.”

Among their most unique treasures is a Harley Davidson fishing lure, which Gayle and Terry Krentz consider a rare find in their collection.

Curio cabinets throughout the home are brimming with an array of collectibles in various shapes and sizes, some familiar, others truly one-of-a-kind.

“If it’s Harley, there’s a good chance we have it,” Gayle Krentz proudly stated.

Among their collection are Ken and Barbie dolls dressed in Harley apparel that were wedding gifts, matching the leather jacket Gayle wore on her special day, complete with Harley-themed wedding jewelry.

As is common among collectors, each item holds a special significance, and the Krentzs are no exception. Terry’s cherished piece is a lamp with adjustable Harley headlights, while Gayle treasures a large Harley coffee mug.

However, they both agree that the true gem of their collection is that rare Harley Davidson fishing lure.

The vast assortment of collectibles, large and small, includes miniature motorcycles, leather jackets, beer steins, games, pins, and countless knickknacks — truly everything imaginable associated with Harley Davidson.

Their garage is dedicated to housing their Harley Davidson motorcycles, reflecting their shared passion for collecting and their love of riding the open road on their bikes at every opportunity.

Gayle’s favorite ride is her Harley Davidson Nightster, while Terry enjoys his “Cadillac of Harleys,” the Electric Glide classic. They proudly hold lifetime membership in the Harley Owners Group.

Asked what they love about Harley Davidson, Terry Krentz summarized, “It symbolizes a lifestyle, represents freedom, embodies patriotism, and fosters a brotherhood. To us, all riders form a family.”
