Harley-Davidson is recalling over 82,100 Softail motorcycles due to a defective part that could compromise the rear tire and lead to sudden pressure loss.
The company stated in a report submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) this month, indicating that the recalled 2018-2019 FLDE, 2018-2021 FLHC, 2018-2024 FLHCS, 2018 and 2023 FLHCS ANV, 2020-2024 FXLRS, 2022-2024 FXLRST, and 2022 FXRST Softail motorcycles may be equipped with a particular rear shock adjuster mounting tab that could potentially break.

The risk of the mounting tab breaking could lead to the adjuster contacting the rear tire, potentially scoring it and causing a sudden loss of pressure, according to the recall report.
“A sudden loss of tire pressure raises the risk of a crash,” the NHTSA informed.
FOX Business has contacted Harley-Davidson for their response.
The firm intends to notify the owners of the potentially affected Softail motorcycles via letter about the recall in mid-June.
Owners will need to have their motorcycles serviced by an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer to rectify the issue as per the recall notice.
The service will include the installation of “new hardware,” which “will include a new bracket to limit the movement of the pre-load adjuster and also prevent contact with the rear tire,” as outlined in the recall report. This service will be complimentary.

Some of the 82,100 Softail motorcycles under recall were “previously repaired” under a different recall and “will need to undergo the new remedy,” as noted by the NHTSA. That earlier recall occurred in August 2023 and affected over 65,200 bikes.
Harley-Davidson stated in the most recent NHTSA recall announcement that it has not received any reports of accidents or injuries related to the issue.
“Other Softail models that use a different type of rear shock adjuster are not part of this recall,” the company mentioned in the recall report.
Motorcycle owners can visit Harley-Davidson’s website to verify if their bike is involved in a recall by using their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). The VIN can usually be found on the steering head or a label affixed to the right front down tube of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, according to the webpage.
