The Joplin dealership has been a staple for riders in southwest Missouri for many years.

“After proudly serving the SWMO Community and helping riders find their Freedom on the open road, we’ll close our doors for the final time on Monday, March 31st – Forever grateful for the memories and journeys shared,” the dealership stated.

This news was made public on Tuesday, March 4.

In order to reduce inventory, Hideout Harley-Davidson is offering substantial discounts on bikes and parts until the end of March.

The news has left many fans disheartened, with many considering the store’s contribution to the local community.

“Wow!! Never thought I’d see this happen,” expressed one surprised customer.

Another attributed the brand’s struggles to various factors: “Their target market has aged out. With interest rates being super high and the used Harley market being very plentiful, that spells disaster for discretionary products.”

Some speculated about the dealership’s inventory, with one asserting, “Downstream casino bought four of them and are going to give them away.”

Many expressed sorrow over the loss of a cherished gathering place.

“SO sad to hear that they are closing. Loved going there,” lamented one enthusiast.

“Really sad. They were one of the few stores that helped bring the community together and put on events,” another fan remarked.

Riders who depended on the dealership for training were particularly disheartened.

“I’m more sad about the fact we’ll be losing the motorcycle safety driving class,” one commented.

Some pointed to competitive pressures and management issues as contributing factors.

“They couldn’t really compete with other dealerships that are within an hour or two away. They also got rid of most of the good employees and lost customers by doing that,” claimed a user.

Harley-Davidson closures in 2024

There are over 650 Harley-Davidson dealerships across America.

Nonetheless, numerous stores have closed for a variety of reasons throughout 2024 – some without providing an explanation.

Here’s a list of some Harley-Davidson locations that have shut down this year along with their reasons for closing:

The San Francisco location closed in June after 110 years due to ‘chaos’ stemming from new management.

Miracle City Harley-Davidson in Titusville, Florida, shut its doors in September with no explanation provided.

Harley-Davidson’s historic location in New York City closed on September 28, with the owner citing economic challenges.

Reiman’s Harley-Davidson dealership in Kewanee, Illinois, ceased operations in October after the owners sold the business to the Walter Brothers Harley Davidson dealership in Peoria, Illinois.

Additionally, the dealership in West Bend, Wisconsin, is temporarily closing for the season from November 2 until April 1, 2024.

HARLEY-DAVIDSON REVENUE SLUMPS

The dealership’s closure coincides with Harley-Davidson’s ongoing significant decline in sales and revenue.

Several Harley-Davidson dealerships across the US closed last year, including sites in New York City, San Francisco, and Titusville, Florida.

The company recorded a 60% dip in revenue and sold 53% fewer motorcycles in the last quarter of 2024 as opposed to 2023, according to News Atlas.

North America experienced a 13% drop in sales during the final three months of 2024.

The company attributes the decline to economic volatility and increased interest rates.

Harley shipped 148,862 motorcycles globally in 2024, a 17% reduction compared to the prior year.

As dealerships grapple with excessive inventory, Harley announced intentions to scale back shipments.

The company anticipates revenue will either remain flat or decrease by another 5% in 2025.

India Prepares Strategy to Address Tariff Concerns: Focus on Modi-Trump Meeting

India Prepares Strategy to Address Tariff Concerns: Focus on Modi-Trump Meeting

New Delhi: In preparation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s upcoming talks with US President Donald Trump during his visit to the US, India is reportedly considering further duty reductions to promote American exports, according to Reuters, which cited government sources. Additionally, New Delhi might reference recent tax reductions on American imports as a strategy to bypass tariffs.

PM Modi is scheduled to visit the United States on February 12-13 to meet with President Trump. Before this meeting, India is contemplating tariff adjustments, although there has been no official confirmation as of yet.

In the coming days, it is anticipated that India may implement custom duty reductions across a variety of sectors, including electronics, surgical and medical equipment, and certain chemicals, as reported by Reuters.

These adjustments are aimed at items for which India often relies on US imports and could feasibly acquire more from the United States, such as dish antennas and wood pulp.

Moreover, it has been suggested that India might leverage recent duty cuts to evade Trump tariffs, as indicated in a report by the Times of India. Trump’s economic adviser, Kevin Hassett, pointed out India’s high tariffs, which hinder imports, and noted that Prime Minister Modi had significant discussions planned with President Trump during their upcoming meeting.

India Reduces Custom Duty on American Goods

In the latest Union Budget, India announced reductions in customs duties for motorcycles, including those made by Harley Davidson, as well as on synthetic flavoring essences. This duty reduction is expected to favor American exporters directly.

The tariff on motorcycles with engine sizes below 1,600cc has been decreased from 50% to 40%, while for those exceeding 1,600cc, it has been lowered from 50% to 30%.

India has cut the duty on fish hydrolysate used for aquatic feed production from 15% to 5%, a change that significantly affects US exports, valued at $35 million in 2023-24.

Additionally, the customs duty on synthetic flavoring essences has been reduced from 100% to 20%, corresponding to US exports worth $21 million in FY24.

The Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) remarked that despite the Trump administration’s frequent criticisms labeling India as the biggest tariff offender, the recent Budget has introduced notable tariff cuts across various products that benefit US exports.

“With major tariff reductions on technology, vehicles, industrial inputs, and waste imports, India seems to be making efforts to facilitate trade even amidst a strained global trading environment. It remains to be seen if these reductions will influence Washington’s perspective on India’s trade policies or become a contentious issue in the US election cycle,” the GTRI noted.

The dealership is collaborating with Western Slope Hog and the Salvation Army.

“We invite the biker community to unite and contribute unwrapped gifts for boys and girls. Just strap them to your motorcycle and bring them to the Harley-Davidson dealership, where we will have a parade route,” shared Dean Nelson, Director of Western Slope Hog.

Between 500 and 800 bikers are expected to gather at the dealership. Coffee and donuts will be available for participants and guests. Riders will then be escorted by the Grand Junction Police Department along a 7-mile route concluding at The Moose Lodge on 25 1/2 Rd.

“We’re anticipating excellent weather, and we hope this will be our largest toy run yet,” stated Rachel Box, Motor Clothes Manager for Harley-Davidson.

After the gift drop-off, attendees can enjoy an after-party at the lodge, celebrating another successful year.

“The true satisfaction comes from witnessing the joy in the children’s hearts and alleviating some of the burdens from struggling parents,” added Nelson.

Last year, nearly 6,000 toys were collected at Harley-Davidson, according to the dealership’s staff.

Individuals interested in donating or participating are encouraged to visit the dealership at 2747 Crossroads Blvd., where special drop-off bins are available.

“It’s an incredible experience,” remarked Box. “After 12 years, I still feel thrilled seeing the multitude of motorcycles and the community coming together for such a worthy cause—it truly gives you goosebumps.”

The event will take place on December 7. More details about the event can be found here.
