Virginia State Police Continue to Investigate Prince Edward Crash

The Virginia State Police announced on Monday that they are actively investigating the cause of a three-vehicle collision that occurred in Prince Edward the previous week. The incident resulted in one fatality and left another person needing medical attention.
The crash unfolded on Wednesday, June 4, prompting state troopers to respond at 5:40 p.m. to Abilene Road in Prince Edward County. According to initial reports, VSP Public Relations Coordinator Matt Demlein indicated that a 2008 Harley Davidson Nightster traveling south attempted to overtake a 2024 Ford F-450, which was also moving in the same direction.
“During the attempted overtaking, the motorcycle collided with a 2019 Mercedes GLC-Class traveling northbound,” Demlein noted. “Following this initial impact, the Ford F-450 struck the motorcycle.”
The motorcyclist, 39-year-old James A. Floyd III from Keysville, tragically lost his life at the scene. Demlein confirmed that Floyd was wearing a helmet at the time. The Mercedes driver, a 47-year-old resident of Rice, sustained only minor injuries, while the Ford driver emerged unscathed.
Demlein emphasized that the investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
