Leonard Boomer | RDNewsNow

Leonard Dean Boomer of Red Deer, Alberta, peacefully passed away on November 24, 2024, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous fight with Parkinson’s Disease at the age of 73.

He will be cherished and deeply missed by his beloved wife of 50 years, Valerie, along with his son Mitchell (Kristin), three precious grandchildren Boyd, Jack, and Ruby, his daughter Lisa (Cameron), and sister Donna (Peter).

Leonard had a passion for skiing, socializing, classic films, reading, and traveling. He was also an avid history enthusiast focusing on World Wars and Vietnam. His favorite pastimes included discussing Fox News and US politics. Leonard was fond of heavy machinery and spent 25 years with Boomer Bros Construction, where he enjoyed many remarkable experiences, particularly the Dease Lake project of building railroad beds in 1971.

After his father and uncles retired, he pursued his plumbing and gasfitting certification at Red Deer College, a significant achievement for a man of 45. He excelled in this endeavor, demonstrating his skill with impressive results.

Leonard believed in the value of hard work, adhering to principles of right and wrong, and punctuality was paramount to him. He took great pride in maintaining his yard, vehicles, RVs, and Harley Davidson motorcycle in pristine condition.

He was a dedicated family man who took great pride in raising two wonderful children. They built two homes together that held a special significance for them—a first home in Sylvan Lake, where they lived for 35 years, followed by their dream residence on Burnt Lake Trail in 2010.

Family and friends held a special place in his heart, allowing him to express his strong opinions with vibrant language.

A public celebration of his life will take place at the Sylvan Lake Legion on Friday, December 6, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Society.
