Matthew “Matt” Scott McKelvey | 94.9 WSJM News, Talk, and Sports

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Matthew “Matt” Scott McKelvey, 57, from Stevensville, MI. He left us due to complications from Pulmonary Fibrosis on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. Matt was born on February 19, 1968, in Muncie, IN, to Tim McKelvey and the late Linda (Jones) McKelvey.

A devoted husband and loving stepfather, he was a cherished son, brother, uncle, and friend.
Matt’s spirit brought joy and laughter to everyone fortunate enough to know him.

In 1986, Matt graduated from Monroe Central High School in Parker City, Indiana, and proudly served in the US Navy on the USS Asheville from 1988 to 1999. He began his career at AEP in 1999, working at the Cook Plant. He earned a BASc in Nuclear Power Technology/Technician and a Masters Certificate in Organizational Leadership from the University of Notre Dame. Matt enjoyed retiring at the age of 54 in 2022, allowing him to travel with his wife. Following retirement, he worked as a contractor for Crane Nuclear alongside his good friend Riley Mayhew.

Matt’s smile was contagious, and he never met a stranger. He cherished golfing with his close friends during the “6 Pak Open.” He was an avid supporter of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Indianapolis Colts, and Cincinnati Reds. Matt loved spending time at their winter home in Florida, enjoying long walks on Siesta Key Beach. He could often be found listening to live music at a local Tiki bar while savoring a cold beer. Other joys in his life included riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and tending to his beautiful garden.

Matt is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanne (Mock) McKelvey, whom he married on April 4, 2004; stepdaughter Kelly (Patrick) Grayam; father Tim McKelvey; sisters Abby (Carl) Pettigrew and Mandi (Donnie) Lucas; many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Linda (Jones) McKelvey, and mother-in-law, Maxine Mock.

Though he has departed from our sight, he will forever remain in our hearts.

A celebration of life is scheduled for 2 PM to 5 PM on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Pebblewood Country Club in Bridgman, MI.
