The accident was reported at 11:46 p.m. on March 8, occurring on West Kaʻahumanu Avenue, approximately 726 feet west of Lunalilo Street.
According to preliminary police reports, a black 2023 Harley Davidson Sportster was heading west on West Kaʻahumanu Avenue when it strayed to the right over the solid white fog line, hitting a curb and embankment before crashing head-on into the northeast corner of the retaining wall at Tings Bridge.
As a result of the crash, the rider sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene.
Authorities reported that the rider was not wearing a helmet during the incident. Investigations into the potential roles of speed, drugs, and alcohol are still ongoing.
This marks Maui County’s fourth traffic fatality of 2025, in contrast to two fatalities at the same time last year.
