Steven Towers, who operates Harley-Davidson dealerships in North Carolina and Nebraska, will take over the operation on January 14.

The current owner, Mike Patterson, shared the news via a post on Facebook.

“This year, my family joyfully celebrated 75 amazing years serving Harley-Davidson enthusiasts across Northeast Kansas,” Patterson announced.

He mentioned that the business is celebrating this milestone while preparing for a new chapter after many years filled with hard work and family memories.

“After careful consideration, I’ve decided to sell Historic Harley-Davidson,” Patterson stated.

He added that the store has been part of his family’s legacy for four generations, starting with his grandfather opening it in 1949.

He expressed gratitude to customers for their loyalty and passion, stating they have become an “extension of our family.”

“It’s a tough decision to part ways with something that has been integral to my life and my family’s story, but I trust Steven Towers as the next keeper of Historic Harley-Davidson,” Patterson remarked.

“Steven possesses the same dedication to Harley-Davidson and the motorcycle community that has driven us for 75 years.”

Patterson confirmed that the current staff would retain their positions at the dealership and invited customers to stay tuned for future updates.

New Harley-Davidson models are expected to debut in 2026 – and they differ from traditional motorcycles

“To all our loyal customers and friends, my heartfelt thanks! Thank you for riding with us and placing your trust in us over the years,” Patterson expressed.

“Your support has made every moment of this journey worthwhile. I cannot fully convey how much your encouragement has meant to my family and me.”

Many bikers expressed their support for Patterson in the comment section of his post.

“It’s refreshing in today’s world to see an owner express such love, kindness, and thoughtfulness toward his employees and his Community,” one customer commented.

Motorcycle Equipment Tips

BEFORE mounting a motorcycle and heading out, riders need to be aware of the essential gear required for safety.

Riders are advised to protect themselves as much as possible before hitting the highway adjacent to other vehicles.

This means that every motorist should definitely have a top-quality motorcycle helmet that fits well.

It’s also essential to cover as much skin as possible, so wearing pants and a riding jacket is crucial.

Safety-conscious riders may go further by always keeping riding gloves handy and wearing boots while on the road.

Cycle World states, “When justifying spending on gear, ask yourself: What is that body part worth? Then spend accordingly.”

“It’s always bittersweet to bid farewell
but I hope, as you said, the new owner will embody your same caring attitude.”

“Thank you for countless memories,” another commenter added.

A former employee remarked, “It was an honor and a privilege to work under you, Mike! Wishing you and your family all the best as you embark on this new chapter for History Harley Davidson.”

“Many thanks to the Patterson family. I still have my first leather jacket bought from the shop on 6th Street,” another nostalgic customer shared.

Another patron was visibly emotional about the news.

“I’m in tears as I reflect on all the wonderful moments we shared at your dealership,” wrote one shopper.

“Thank you for the beautiful memories and may God bless you and your family in your future endeavors.”

Dennis and Suzanne Kachelmyer, who have owned the motorcycle shop for many years, broke the news of the closure in a Facebook post on Monday.

Customers expressed their disappointment and frustration regarding the announcement in the comments section of the post.

“This is unfortunate news for the biker community,” remarked one Facebook user.

“Wishing the best for all the employees affected by this. I hope someone steps in to purchase this business for us riders.”

“We have no other convenient option for our bikes.”

Another commenter expressed, “What? This is devastating news, I’m saddened to hear this. I reside in International Falls and this was my nearest dealership.”

“Really heartbreaking news, I was just about to plan some maintenance before next year’s riding season,” a third user shared.

The owners mentioned in the comments that they are in the process of selling their remaining inventory.

While standard business operations have concluded, they are working through existing service orders and remaining stock, including motorcycles.

They have confirmed that regular business activities have already ceased, with an ongoing wind-down of their current operations, including service work orders and leftover inventory, including motorcycles.

The exact date for the store’s closure remains uncertain.

Customers holding gift cards for the center can either request a refund or use them to purchase existing merchandise.

The owners expressed that sharing years of passion for riding has been a true privilege.

“Our love for Harley-Davidson motorcycles, the community, and the experiences has provided us with countless moments of joy and excitement, doing what we cherish every day!” the Kachelmyers shared.

Harley-Davidson Closures in 2024

Currently, there are over 650 Harley-Davidson dealerships across the United States.

Unfortunately, several stores have closed for various reasons throughout 2024, with minimal explanations provided.

Here’s a recap of some Harley-Davidson locations that have shut down this year and the reasons behind their closures:

The San Francisco location closed in June after 110 years due to ‘chaos’ from new management.

Miracle City Harley-Davidson in Titusville, Florida, closed in September, with no justification offered.

Harley-Davidson’s flagship location in New York City ceased operations on September 28, with the owner citing economic challenges.

Reiman’s Harley-Davidson dealership in Kewanee, Illinois, shut its doors in October after the owners sold the establishment to the Walter Brothers Harley Davidson dealership in Peoria, Illinois.

Additionally, the dealership in West Bend, Wisconsin, is temporarily closing for the season from November 2 until April 1, 2024.

“It deeply saddens us to confront these difficult economic times, leading to the hard decision to close our doors and wind down the operations.”

“To our Harley-Davidson family, we are grateful for this lifelong journey!” the owners expressed.

“Keep riding and enjoying; we look forward to crossing paths with you on the road!”

The store has not yet responded to The U.S. Sun’s request for comment.

As the Kachelmyers step away from their venture, another motorcycle family is set to expand its operations.

Carolina Coast Harley-Davidson in Wilmington, North Carolina, and Beach House Harley-Davidson in Shallotte, North Carolina, are changing ownership after over three decades under the management of Rick and Janice Noyes.

The two dealerships are being taken over by Charlie Cole, Will Cole, and Freddy Tedesco of the Cole Family of Harley-Davidson Dealerships.

Centenarian Dorothy “Dot” Frances Brazier, born Earley, led a fulfilling life during her 103 years. She was born in Dunedin on September 8, 1921, and left school at 13 to work for the confectionery company McIntosh Caley Phoenix, before transitioning to Cadbury Fry Hudson. There, she packed hand-wrapped chocolates and led the Cadbury marching team, which is where she caught the attention of her future husband, Bill Brazier; the two married in 1942. Mrs. Brazier later joined Wolfenden and Russell clothing store, and during World War II, she made soldier uniforms at Sargoods. Post-war, the couple settled in Nightcaps, where Bill worked as a miner, and they operated a mine in Coaldale, in addition to running a milk delivery service. In 1954, they established Brazier Motors, with Mrs. Brazier taking charge of the school bus route. She not only transported three generations of children but also ferried miners to their jobs and organized bus charters before retiring in 1979 to Alexandra. In 1986, Mr. Brazier passed away, prompting Mrs. Brazier to move to Dunedin. She had a passion for golf and was actively involved in Lions. The couple had three children: Gaynor, Lance, and Royce. After suffering a heart attack in 2015, Mrs. Brazier relocated to Auckland to be nearer to Gaynor. She passed away on October 23, and is survived by her children, 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. — ODT

IRVINE, Calif., Dec. 5, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Performance Brokerage Services, the premier firm in dealership buy-sell activities, is excited to announce the successful sale of Carolina Coast Harley-Davidson located in Wilmington, North Carolina, along with Beach House Harley-Davidson situated in Shallotte, North Carolina. The transaction was between Rick and Janice Noyes and the Cole Family of Harley-Davidson Dealerships.

Performance Brokerage Services, recognized as North America’s leading dealership brokerage firm in terms of volume, is pleased to announce the acquisition of Carolina Coast Harley-Davidson in Wilmington, North Carolina, and Beach House Harley-Davidson in Shallotte, North Carolina by Charlie Cole, Will Cole, and Freddy Tedesco of the Cole Family of Harley-Davidson Dealerships.

Carolina Coast Harley-Davidson, along with its sister location, Beach House Harley-Davidson on U.S. Route 17, has been family-owned and managed by Rick and Janice Noyes for over thirty years. Post-sale, Rick Noyes stated, “Establishing a business from the ground up and becoming a cornerstone of your community for more than three decades is no small achievement. Transitioning that well-rooted business is also an emotional journey. It necessitates a different level of expertise to execute that sale successfully. George and his committed team leave no detail overlooked and are involved until the closing is complete.” Rick and Janice will retained ownership of New River Harley-Davidson in Jacksonville, North Carolina.

In the past five years, Performance Brokerage Services has facilitated the sale of over 300 dealerships, reinforcing its status as the highest volume dealership brokerage in North America. George C. Chaconas, Senior Partner, and Courtney A. Bernhard, Partner in the Harley-Davidson & Powersports Division at Performance Brokerage Services, were the sole advisors representing the sellers in this sale.

George Chaconas remarked, “Over five years ago, I met with Rick and Janice Noyes at the last Harley-Davidson dealer show in Milwaukee to explore the possibility of selling their two North Carolina stores, Carolina Coast Harley-Davidson and Beach House Harley-Davidson. Following the pandemic, Rick reached out to discuss the sale again. Soon after, my partner Courtney Bernhard and I traveled to meet with Rick and his wife, assisting them in preparing for the sale. After providing them with a valuation estimate and marketing strategy, we pinpointed a qualified buyer in the Cole Family of Harley-Davidson Dealerships. It was a privilege to assist Rick and Janice in successfully selling their dealerships, enabling them to move towards semi-retirement and focus on their remaining store. I am deeply thankful for the chance to represent them through this pivotal transition.”
