The Harley-Davidson Heritage Classic Cruiser: Merging Timeless Charm with Modern Technology

Decades ago, concepts like the assembly line and interchangeable parts weren’t prioritized, as profits did not hinge on them. This freedom allowed individuals to showcase unique perspectives, resulting in rich diversity, particularly in the automotive sector. While quality and reliability have undoubtedly improved significantly due to standardized parts, the ultimate aim remains to produce items that combine nostalgic charm with modern technology for enhanced dependability. Upon a closer look, numerous motorcycles exemplify this fusion, especially in the realm of cruisers. Among them, one cruiser stands out for its remarkable blend of classic appeal and contemporary technology.

For factual integrity, the details in this article are derived from trusted sources, including the official websites of the respective manufacturers.

Harley-Davidson

The Heritage Classic previously utilized the Milwaukee-Eight 114 engine until the 2024 model year, but for 2025, it has been upgraded to the Milwaukee-Eight 117 Classic. While the power increase is modest—an additional 4 horsepower and 1 pound-foot—the peak power and torque arrive 150 RPM and 500 RPM earlier, resulting in enhanced torque across the rev range.

This new engine employs oil cooling for the heads, complemented by a frame-mounted oil cooler. In keeping with the bike’s retro aesthetics, a round air cleaner element is positioned between the cylinders, and a two-into-one exhaust runs down the right side. The clutch is a conventional multiplate design without assist or slip functionality. Standard features include traction control and drag-torque slip control, both equipped with cornering functions. If desired, the traction control can be disabled for those looking to spin the rear wheel of a Heritage Classic.

Rolling Thunder Riders Pay Tribute to Veterans and MIA with Memorial Day Ride

THIS YEAR, EVENTS ARE SET TO TAKE PLACE IN NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER. THIS WEEKEND, MILLIONS OF FLAGS ARE WAVING ACROSS THE NATION TO HONOR THE BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN WHO FOUGHT AND GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THE FREEDOMS WE ENJOY DAILY. ON THE GULF COAST, CEREMONIES AND EVENTS HAVE BEEN HAPPENING ALL WEEKEND, INCLUDING ONE THAT CONTINUES TO GROW. MADISON ZALESKI IS IN GORDA TONIGHT, WHERE SHE MET WITH ROLLING THUNDER OF FLORIDA AS THEY HELD THEIR THUNDER RIDE FOR FREEDOM. >> A ROLL OF THUNDER CAN BE A DISTURBING SOUND, BUT IN THIS CASE, IT REPRESENTS SUPPORT FOR THE AMERICAN DREAM. MEMBERS OF ROLLING THUNDER, AN ADVOCACY GROUP FOR PRISONERS OF WAR AND THOSE MISSING IN ACTION, CAME TOGETHER ON MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND TO THANK ALL WHO HAVE SERVED AND SACRIFICED. >> “I HAVE A MISSING COUSIN, AND THAT’S THE FOCUS OF ROLLING THUNDER, ALONG WITH HELPING VETERANS IN NEED.” >> ROLLING THUNDER WAS FOUNDED 37 YEARS AGO AS A PROTEST IN WASHINGTON, D.C., AIMING TO SHOW SUPPORT FOR THE MILITARY AND REMIND CONGRESS. >> “IT APPEARS THERE IS AN INCREDIBLE NEED FOR THOSE WHO ARE MISSING TO COME HOME FIRST,” ED SAID. OVER 1,200 BIKES, INCLUDING 300 BIKERS, RODE FROM LASHLEY PARK IN GORDA TO BERT’S BLACK WIDOW HARLEY-DAVIDSON ON SUNDAY MORNING. RIDERS HOPE THIS WILL ONE DAY PROVIDE RELIEF TO FAMILIES OF THE FALLEN. 82,000 STILL REMAIN MISSING IN ACTION SINCE WORLD WAR I. >> “ONE OF THE MAIN EVENTS WE DO IS TO SUPPORT GROUPS GOING BACK IN COUNTRY TO NORTH AFRICA, EUROPE, AND SOUTHEAST ASIA TO LOCATE REMAINS, CONDUCT DNA TESTING, AND BRING THEM HOME.”

Rolling Thunder riders honor veterans and MIA with Memorial Day ride

Over 300 bikers and members of Rolling Thunder rode from Laishley Park in Punta Gorda to Bert’s Black Widow Harley-Davidson on Sunday morning.

A roll of thunder can be a frightening sound, but it signifies support for those who served and sacrificed. Members of Rolling Thunder, an advocacy group for prisoners of war and those missing in action, gathered for Memorial Day weekend to express gratitude to all veterans. Dr. Lance Armstrong stated, “Because I have a missing cousin, that’s the focus of Rolling Thunder, along with helping veterans in need.” Founded 37 years ago as a protest ride in Washington D.C., Rolling Thunder aims to show support for the military. “To remind Congress, P.O.W.s and M.I.A.s must come home first,” remarked Carl Steinhoff, chairman of Rolling Thunder, Chapter 5. More than 300 bikers rode from Laishley Park in Punta Gorda to Bert’s Black Widow Harley-Davidson on Sunday morning. Riders hope this effort will one day bring relief to families of the fallen.

“Currently, we have 82,000 still missing in action since World War I. Rolling Thunder is one of the key events we do to support groups traveling back to countries like North Africa, Europe, and Southeast Asia to locate remains, conduct DNA testing, and reunite them with their families,” Steinhoff explained.

Motorcycle Collision on Green Pond Road in Polk City Leaves One Dead and One Injured

On Saturday, May 24th, at approximately 9:40 a.m., the PCSO ECC received a 911 call concerning a motorcycle accident with injuries on Green Pond Road, close to San Juan Avenue in Polk City. A group of motorcycles, led by a 72-year-old man from Mascotte, FL, riding a Harley Davidson, was heading westbound on Green Pond Rd. As the lead motorcycle approached a right curve, it veered over the center line into the eastbound lane. Concurrently, another group of motorcycles was traveling eastbound, and the lead bike (a Ducati) in that group was struck by the 72-year-old, resulting in both riders being ejected from their bikes.

First responders arrived on the scene to find witnesses performing CPR on the 72-year-old, which continued as he was transported by Polk Fire Rescue to a local hospital. Unfortunately, despite life-saving efforts, he did not survive his injuries and was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. The Ducati rider, a 61-year-old man from Tampa, sustained broken bones and a collapsed lung and is currently hospitalized.

“Motorcycles and hot rod engines are among my favorite subjects,” McGuire shared. “I love capturing the various lines, angles, patterns, and reflections of the chrome. Clearly, our monthly judge from the Tracy Camera Club appreciated it just as much as I did.”

The judges awarded Mickey McGuire's striking image of chrome details on a Harley Davidson motorcycle as the Photo of the Month for May in the Tracy Camera Club's contest. McGuire submitted the photograph, titled “Happy Harley,” in the Open category.

“Motorcycles and hot rod engines are among my preferred subjects,” shared McGuire. “I'm drawn to the lines, angles, patterns, and reflections inherent in chrome. I frequently employ a Topaz filter to give the final picture a painterly quality, along with color adjustments to further abstract it. It appears our monthly judge appreciated it as much as I did.”

Harley-Davidson CEO Hints at Next Phase in Transition to Smaller Bikes with Launch of Exciting New Series

HARLEY-Davidson’s leadership has hinted at the brand’s upcoming shift toward smaller motorcycles with the introduction of a new series.

The iconic motorcycle manufacturer appears poised to embrace the growing trend of small-capacity bikes, offering more affordable models that could entice new riders to the fold.

This information comes from MCN, which reports that the company’s executives are exploring entry into the low-capacity segment after discontinuing the entry-level Forty-Eight and 883 Sportsters in Europe.

Harley-Davidson is well-known for its larger cruisers but does have a number of lightweight models available internationally.

An example is the single-cylinder X440, produced by Hero MotoCorp for India, which features an attractive starting price.

Additionally, competing smaller bikes, like the Honda GB350S and Triumph Speed 400, have gained popularity in the UK market since their launch—prompting the American brand’s intention to capture a share of that market.

Kolja Rebstock, Harley-Davidson’s Vice President for International Markets, stated: “We lost volume when we discontinued the Sportster model line, which was previously very successful.

“Unfortunately, it wasn’t very beneficial from a financial perspective to the company. The challenge is determining how we can enter the market with smaller entry-level products while achieving the necessary financial outcomes.”

“Our R&D team is concentrating on this issue.

“There is clear demand—we cannot reveal specifics about what’s in development just yet, but we recognize the need for a pathway into the brand.”

He further noted: “We possess excellent production capabilities in Thailand.”

“A significant portion of our motorcycles for international markets are produced at this facility, and the feedback regarding quality has been outstanding.”

The new Harley Davidson is both “elegant and brutal,” featuring woven seats and stylish wheels—the rear setup has undergone a complete redesign.

Transitioning toward lighter bikes aligns with Harley’s goal to diversify its customer base and change old perceptions about the brand.

Rebstock continued: “We must remain loyal to our core customers.

“However, the more we adhere strictly to that, the more we risk alienating ourselves if we fail to reach out to new [customers].”

Models like the Pan America and Sportster S are examples of this strategy, though the company is often still associated with its cruiser-heavy lineup.

“We are still often seen as the company that only produces Softail models, such as our iconic Fat Boy and larger touring bikes. However, that is misleading—we actually have a significantly broader model range,” he explained.

“I am often surprised when I engage with individuals who are unaware of the fantastic adventure touring motorcycle we have been selling since 2021, the Pan America. This bike has proven itself in the most challenging conditions, even during the Africa Eco Race.

“We also offer iconic models that appear to be unchanged, but constant evolution is taking place to modernize our bikes.

“We have a plethora of exciting ideas in the pipeline for the future.”

While making bikes more affordable is one focus, they are also looking to attract a more diverse audience.

Rebstock remarked: “I believe there is a significant opportunity for us to demonstrate our openness to women riders—this is a crucial market for us to tap into.

“[Especially as] certain markets are observing a trend where more women than men are obtaining their motorcycle licenses.”

Harley-Davidson Dealership Closures in 2024

Harley-Davidson operates over 650 dealerships across the United States.

However, multiple stores have closed for various reasons throughout 2024, often without any explanations.

Below is a list of some Harley-Davidson locations that have shut down this year and the reasons behind their closures:

A location in San Francisco closed in June 2024 after 110 years, citing ‘chaos’ caused by new management.

Miracle City Harley-Davidson in Titusville, Florida, ceased operations in September 2024 with no explanation provided.

Harley-Davidson’s legacy location in New York City closed on September 28, 2024, with the owner citing economic issues.

Reiman’s Harley-Davidson dealership in Kewanee, Illinois, closed in October 2024 after the owners sold the business to the Walter Brothers Harley Davidson dealership in Peoria, Illinois.

Another Illinois dealership was shut down in November 2024.

Additionally, the dealership in West Bend, Wisconsin, is temporarily closing for the season from November 2 until April 1, 2024.

For 2025, Hideout Harley-Davidson in Missouri announced it would close at the end of March.
