Back in 2021, the automobile industry was facing a tough time as COVID-19 forced all manufacturers to rethink their strategies. While many opted for caution during the global pandemic, Harley-Davidson boldly chose to unveil the Pan America 1250, a true game-changer.

Since its launch, both in India and globally, the bike has provoked intrigue and enthusiasm among motorcycle fans. Nearly five years have passed since it arrived in India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), and it has successfully established its presence in the adventure tourer segment.

What’s Inside?

Before delving into specifics, let’s clarify one aspect: the Pan America is not a disguised cruiser; it is engineered with a serious purpose for its intended riders. We’ll discuss the design shortly, but first, let’s focus on the highlight—the engine.

Equipped with a powerful 1252cc, liquid-cooled, V-twin engine, it delivers a robust output of 150.19 bhp at 8750 rpm and peak torque of 128 Nm at 6750 rpm. This unit pairs with a smooth transmission, complemented by a clutch assist and slipper clutch for enhanced performance. The entire setup feels responsive and embodies Harley’s legendary essence.

Design and Comfort

Visually, the Pan America commands attention on the road. It encompasses everything one desires in an adventure bike—bold presence, eye-catching aesthetics, and a stunning appearance, making it a seamless blend of modern and classic design.

Rather than imitating the rugged allure of the BMW GS or the aggressive design of the KTM 1290 Super Adventure, the Pan America boasts a unique identity rooted in the brand’s signature style, exhibiting a powerful visual language.

The large adventure bike is equipped with numerous advanced features, including a rectangular fully LED headlight system with integrated DRLs, and fog lights positioned above the headlight.

On the sides, sleek circular indicators enhance its appeal, while the engine is partially exposed, contributing to a more dominant look in its class. For rider safety, knuckle guards are fitted to the handlebars, along with rugged-looking side mirrors that elevate its overall aesthetic.

The motorcycle provides a commendable upright seating position, well-placed foot pegs, and wide handlebars, making extended rides comfortable. It also offers substantial wind protection courtesy of the adjustable windscreen, along with a practical optional luggage system for long-distance journeys. Harley has engineered this bike not just for lengthy rides but for conquering uncharted territories.

Innovations and Features

What truly distinguishes the Pan America 1250 from its competitors is its state-of-the-art technology and innovative features. Among these is the segment-leading Adaptive Ride Height (ARH), which showcases its capabilities as soon as the rider starts the bike. The semi-active suspension effortlessly lowers the bike, making it accessible for shorter riders to comfortably place their feet on the ground without the worry of handling a hefty machine.

Key Features

Noteworthy features include cornering ABS, lean-sensitive traction control, multiple riding modes for varied terrains, Brembo brakes, and Michelin Scorcher Adventure tires designed specifically for the Pan America. The bike also features a crisp 6.8-inch TFT touchscreen display with Bluetooth connectivity, keeping essential information at your fingertips.

Handling and Fuel Economy

Despite its substantial kerb weight of 245 to 258 kg, the bike handles surprisingly well. It instills confidence during cornering, allowing for more aggressive riding when desired.

The grip from the tires is evident during every ride. However, one downside is its fuel consumption, as it tends to consume petrol rather rapidly. The manufacturer claims the bike achieves fuel efficiency between 18.18 and 18.3 km/l, but our experience yielded slightly lower figures, even with gentle riding in a non-aggressive mode. That said, we believe that the “Kitna Deti Hai” question may not faze those who understand the value of their investment.

Final Thoughts

The Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 is not merely “good for a Harley”; it’s an excellent choice for true motorcycle enthusiasts seeking a blend of enjoyment and comfort in riding. It meets expectations and impressively demonstrates that even the most legendary brands can adapt and set new standards while retaining their essence.

It is fair to state that the model serves as a wild card amidst a set of predictable competitors. Sometimes, the wild card offers the most thrilling experience. If your budget aligns with the mentioned price range and you seek a reliable partner for your next adventure, then the Pan America 1250 is undoubtedly a commendable choice.

Stay tuned for the latest updates on car and bike launches in India, along with reviews, pricing, specifications, and performance. Keep informed with breaking news from the auto industry, EV policies, and more on News18.

Could This Stunning New Adventure Sport Motorcycle Secretly Be Your Everyday Ride?

The Revolution Max 1250, featuring liquid cooling, delivers an impressive powerband with 149 horsepower and 91 ft-lbs of torque at its peak. This power is more than sufficient to accelerate out of traffic and soar into the countryside, where only high speeds can satisfy one’s adventurous spirit.

Notably, this engine is integrated into the ST chassis as a structural component, a dual-purpose design that reduces weight while enhancing rigidity, leading to a more agile riding experience.

2. Stylish and Comfortable Seating

Could This Stunning New Adventure Sport Motorcycle Secretly Be Your Everyday Ride?Harley Davidson

Adventure motorcycles often pose a challenge for newer and shorter riders due to their high seat heights. While this height is essential for adequate ground clearance on rugged terrain, it can intimidate those less experienced.

However, the ST’s seat offers a welcoming design. It sits 0.5 inches lower than the Pan America 1250 Special’s seat, making it more accessible.

Thanks to its adaptive ride height feature—technology that automatically lowers the bike when stationary—the seat can be adjusted to as low as 31.7 inches, a full inch shorter than the Special.

Solo Adventure to Goa from Bangalore on My Harley-Davidson X440

By 2024, I had finally gained more confidence in my bike and my handling abilities. After applying for a week of leave, I began planning a solo ride set for November 2024.

BHPian HDx440Life recently shared this with fellow enthusiasts:

I typically reserve my leaves for the close of the year and have long dreamed of embarking on a coastal bike adventure. I purchased the Harley Davidson X440 at the end of 2023, but fear of the unknown held me back from riding that year. Fast forward to 2024, I felt much more confident with my bike and my skills. I applied for a week’s leave and started mapping out a solo journey for November 2024.

Deciding on the route was next, and I decided on Bangalore – Chikmangaluru – Gokarna – Goa – Davanagere – Bangalore. I intentionally planned for a short first day as it had been a while since I’d taken a long ride; I wanted to ease my body into it. Here’s the route I settled on:

The next step was organizing my accommodation during the ride. I wanted this trip to be memorable, so I booked an Airbnb in Chikmangaluru and a hostel in Gokarna! It would be my first hostel experience, and I was excited, especially since it was a mixed dorm accommodating 8 guests! My plan included staying one night each in Chikmangaluru, Gokarna, and Davanagere, plus four nights in Goa on my return journey.

With everything set, I focused on acquiring the necessary gear. I purchased a GUARDIANGEARS Wolverine Magnetic Tank Pouch with Rain Cover, a GUARDIANGEARS Rhino Mini 50L Tail Bag with Rain Cover, and some bamboo socks to avoid the pesky issue of smelly feet. I already owned clan riding boots, Fly Butane Pants, Fly Terra Trek II Jacket, and Cramster waterproof gloves. However, I noticed that all the armor had developed dry rot—similar to my old Alpinestar shoes—so I bought Knox CE level 2 elbow and shoulder armors (set of 4) and a Royal Enfield Ergo Pro-Tech shoulder protector in yellow. They fit my gear perfectly and the quality is impressive.

The night before my ride arrived, and I packed up my belongings. The next day, I attached my tailbag to the bike and slipped into my riding gear. Here’s a picture of the bike all prepped for the journey:

The initial part of the ride was quite uneventful; the roads were smooth, and I maintained a steady speed (70-80 km/h) until I reached the Airbnb in Chikmangaluru. The accommodation was beautiful and just as described. After a light lunch, I took out my DJI drone for some aerial shots and videos. Below is an image of the location:

Check out this drone shot of my stay:

I woke up early the following day and began my ride around 7 am. The roads were splendid, and I arrived in Gokarna by 1 pm. Riding through the winding mountain roads was a thrill, and I eagerly anticipated my hostel stay. The room exceeded my expectations, as shown in the picture below.

Here’s an Insta 360 X3 video of my ride through the jungle:

Here’s a glimpse of my hostel room, which I shared with another guy and three girls:

Saying I had fun in Gokarna would be an understatement. I visited the main beach, Paradise Beach, and Om Beach, soaking up the vibrant atmosphere. I created a short video compilation of my drone footage from there:

My roommates (the girls) woke up early the next morning (around 4 am), prompting me to rise as well. I was busy until 5:30 and then set off for Om Beach to catch the sunrise—a breathtaking sight you should not miss if you ever visit Gokarna.

After returning to my hotel by 7 am, I got ready and departed for Goa by 8 am. The roads were incredibly smooth, and I enjoyed the scenery with the sea on my left and a river on my right. Here’s a drone shot of the area:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtI5br3ENIE

I continued my journey until I reached the end of the road, both literally and figuratively—as you can see in the picture below:

Google Maps directed me to a narrow road with no chance to turn back, leading directly to the sea! After a bit of shock, I pondered my next step. Thankfully, a local cyclist informed me that I’d need to take a boat across the sea! Below is a picture of the route and my bike loading onto the boat:

After finally reaching Goa, I checked into a boutique hotel I had booked and then headed to the airport. By the way, my wife had also expressed a desire to visit Goa, so I arranged a flight for her and our 5-year-old. Here are a couple of photos from Goa, in case you’re tired of looking at too many Goa pictures:

Once my time in Goa wrapped up, my family flew back home as I headed towards Davanagere. On the way, I had an interesting experience when Google led me off the highway and into a reserved forest area. The road was primarily in good condition, but I didn’t encounter any vehicles apart from my bike. Stopping to take a photo in the jungle felt carefree. Take a look at the picture below:

I continued my ride, only to come across a warning sign stating not to stop because cheetahs inhabit the area! Nonetheless, I moved forward and stayed in a decent hotel that night. The ride back to Bangalore the next day was smooth, and I felt delighted to have finally completed a journey I will cherish for the rest of my life! I’m already looking forward to my next adventure ride this year.
