In 2013, they recalled 29,000 motorcycles because of a clutch system issue. In 2014, thousands more were recalled due to a malfunctioning brake master cylinder, and in 2015, even more bikes faced a recall due to a fuel pump problem.

This latest recall is particularly serious, as it could result in a sudden loss of control over the motorcycle, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration [NHTSA].

If your motorcycle is part of the recall, you are encouraged to take it to your local authorized Harley Davidson dealer for a no-cost resolution of the issue.

Harley-Davidson is issuing a recall for more than 82,100 Softail motorcycles due to a defective component that may compromise the rear tire, leading to a sudden loss of pressure.

The manufacturer reported in a statement submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that certain 2018-2019 FLDE, 2018-2021 FLHC, 2018-2024 FLHCS, 2018 and 2023 FLHCS ANV, 2020-2024 FXLRS, 2022-2024 FXLRST, and 2022 FXRST Softail motorcycles may feature a rear shock adjuster mounting tab that is susceptible to fracturing.

If the mounting tab fails, the adjuster may come into contact with the rear tire, potentially creating a groove that could lead to a sudden loss of tire pressure, according to the recall report.


“A sudden loss of tire pressure heightens the risk of a crash,” stated the NHTSA.

FOX Business has reached out to Harley-Davidson for remarks.

The company plans to notify owners of the potentially affected Softail motorcycles with a letter regarding the recall by mid-June.

Owners must take their motorcycle to an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer for the necessary repairs, in line with the recall report.

The service will involve the replacement of “new hardware,” including a new bracket that restricts the movement of the preload adjuster and prevents contact with the rear tire, as described in the recall report. The service will be complimentary.

TOYOTA RECALLS OVER 443,000 TRUCKS FOR POTENTIAL REVERSE LIGHT ISSUE

Some Softail motorcycles currently recalled were “previously serviced” under a different recall and “will need the new remedy applied,” according to the NHTSA. That previous recall, which took place in August 2023, affected over 65,200 units.

Harley-Davidson indicated in the latest NHTSA recall announcement that no incidents of crashes or injuries linked to this issue have been reported.

“Other Softail models that use a different style of rear shock adjuster are not part of this recall,” the company also mentioned in the report.

Harley-Davidson provides a webpage where motorcycle owners can verify if their bike is subject to a recall using their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). The VIN is usually located on the steering head or on a label attached to the right front down tube of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, as indicated on the website.

On a global scale, the company reported the shipment of nearly 149,000 motorcycles across various categories throughout 2024.

The manufacturer disclosed in a report submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that certain 2018-2019 FLDE, 2018-2021 FLHC, 2018-2024 FLHCS, 2018 and 2023 FLHCS ANV, 2020-2024 FXLRS, 2022-2024 FXLRST, and 2022 FXRST Softail motorcycles may have been equipped with a type of rear shock adjuster mounting tab that is prone to fracturing.

Should the mounting tab break, it may cause the adjuster to come into contact with the rear tire, potentially gouging it and leading to a rapid loss of tire pressure, according to the recall notice.

The company plans to notify owners of the potentially affected Softail motorcycles via letter in mid-June.

“Other Softail models utilizing a different style of rear shock adjuster are not included in this recall,” the company added in the notice.

Harley-Davidson has a dedicated webpage where motorcycle owners can verify if their bike is part of a recall using their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). This number is generally found on the steering head or a label affixed to the right front down tube of Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

On a global scale, the company announced it shipped nearly 149,000 motorcycles across various models during the year 2024.

The rear shock pre-load adjuster’s mounting tab may break on certain 2018-2024 Softail motorcycles, the federal agency detailed in a recall notice released on June 12, which could cause the rear shock absorber adjuster to damage the rear tire and lead to a loss of tire pressure.

This potential failure poses a risk of crash or serious injury, authorities warn.

As of early June, Harley-Davidson had not reported any fatalities or injuries related to this defect.

Some motorcycles involved in this recall had previously undergone repairs for recall 23V591 and will require a new remedy.

FBI Issues Reward for Information on Missing Maine Teen Stefanie Damron
(NewsNation) — The FBI has announced a reward of up to $15,000 for information that may help locate a Maine teenager who has been missing for over two months, or for the arrest of individuals involved in her disappearance.

Stefanie Damron, 14, was declared missing on September 24, 2024, last observed leaving her home and wandering into the woods in New Sweden, Maine.

 

 

Parents Christopher and Lisa Marie Damron expressed in a statement made in October that Stefanie had an argument with her sister prior to her departure.

Having relocated to Maine from Texas in 2020, the family noted that a family member indicated that Stefanie had attempted to run away in the past but was located by her relatives in the woods.

As per the FBI, Stefanie was homeschooled and had limited access to social media.

Authorities have released updated images of Stefanie in the hope that someone may come forward with information.

Community members have organized search efforts with no success thus far, as reported by local news sources. Officials have extended the search for Stefanie across the nation and into Canada.

Stefanie is characterized as a white female with green eyes and shoulder-length brown hair. She stands approximately 5 feet tall and weighs around 130 pounds. At the time of her last sighting, she wore blue jeans, a long-sleeved blue shirt, and black Harley Davidson hiking boots.
